World championship 2011 Monte Cucco LIVE with Nokia

I am very pleased to announce that I got a green light from Nokia for making my blog more updated then ever.

My idea was to actually erase the problem with catching WiFi connections in Umbria to actually post some news from the World championship 2011. Nokia gave me the tool to make it. Nokia N8 became my companion since Florida and #N8Producers trip. Slowly I am learning all the possibilities I get with it and there is much to be learned :)

So with this phone I have video cam, a photo camera and a connection to the worldwide web where my blog is siting as well :) The only missing link was a credit to actually have them published in real time from anywhere where phone signal gets. They gave me a hand to help me with that.

So guess what, here you will be able to see the task board shortly after the briefing.(I have to listen too) :) Pictures from the goal field in the real time, videos and so on. The possibilities are endless.

Off the topic

I am preparing a short article about the new Aeros Combat 13.5 GT coming soon. Keep in touch :)

Last Thursday we also had a price giving for sport achievements in my home town Tolmin. I was quite surprised to get this beauty in my hands :)

Weightless clumsiness

Time is running fast, running really fast here. Since Thursday, everyday we where upon something, Saturday was the top cherry the Zero G flight, then Universal studios, then Space center Kennedy, yesterday alligators. This morning I am finally able to get some words together about it, yet the zero g stays a puzzle that will I will be solving in next days. Was just so great.

Project N8 Producers gathered people from all around the world and it was nice to see how good group came here. We all had great time together also on the "unofficial" evenings where we spend some great moments together.
So, the Zero gravity flight. We went to the airstrip where the Zero G plane was waiting for us. Before that we had a safety briefing just like we do at hang gliding comps just that here weather was not a part of it :) They explained us a bit about behavior in the weightlessness as usually people start to swim when it happens :) Not nice to kick someone in the air like this :)
The parabola was made of +2G that then transformed first one to Mars gravity (2/3G) then to 2 parabolas with Lunar (1/3G) and then finally to a zero one.
They did that so we could adjust us to the felling of weightlessness. The party could begin :)

The actual feeling is somehow hard to explain. Like being under water with out resistance. Every movement you do causes you to move for infinity until you don`t stop yourself punching to the other side of the plane or to someone else. Feet down coming, feet down coming was the signal that told us to get in to position where we will get back on the floor so you better be with your legs down when this happened and maybe not up on the roof as you had 2 m to get down :)

Chaos a nice chaos with group of people floating around. After five parabolas, first stomachs started to feel bad so they where escorted to the back of the plane, yet, they did not solve the problem also there as they experienced all other parabolas by being seated to the plane seats.

I have to admit, after the 15th the last parabola I was white in my face as well, I think another one would make me use the bag that they gave us for the emergency :) Nena was on the other hand felling ok, she even took the snacks that they gave to us just after the last parabola.

After experience like that you, ask yourself how it looks like to be in space. If you would ask me that right after the Zero G I guess I would throw up :) But, this was a controlled fall that ended up by taking the +2G again and then again to zero G, maybe this is bigger problem then just floating around in space. Susan Kilrain, the astronaut from one space shuttle mission said that the hardest thing in zero G is to be relaxed, funny, we al think that being weightless means enjoying it and being relaxed with it on the other hand you are actually all the time trying to get in to the proper position. She said, you really miss to sit down :)
They need somehow three days to adjust to this felling.

That is a short version of the feelings that I was able to put together in my head. I had some footage of the Zero G flight that I was able to put together really fast in Pinnacle that I just don`t like anymore as I am spoiled by the Premiere. Enjoy the ride :)

From zero to shorts

Yesterday we got ourselves on a plane from Venice to Orlando. Quick stop on JFK in New York where there where the same temperatures as at home. After 24 hours on the road even hot Florida didn`t provide enough temperature to warm us up, so we just fell in to the bed and woke up to....

We woke up to a view to the beach from Radisson hotel. Nokia is spoiling us already since we touched down in Orlando. The black Lincoln was waiting for us with a nice driver who took us to the Melbourne beach.
Our schedule with Nena is that we stay with Nokia and Womworld for this 4 nights where we will tommorow go to Space Kennedy center to experience Zero G flight and day after tommorow for Universal studios park in Orlando.
So here we are in Florida where our good friends Jamie and Tim are living. They where both so generous that they will let us sleep over at their places even do they are not here at this time. Too bad, would be nice to see each other in their homeland. We might catch a dinner with Jamie if we get from Miami in time. We will do our best.
So, after we finish with Nokia it was originally scheduled that we should fly back but, it would be pity that we would go to another side of the world for 3 days. So we humbly asked Womworld to make our flight tickets back later in the end of the week. Jamie was so generous that she will borrow us her car so we could make a turn to Miami for one night. Imagine this coincidence, Nokia arranged a place to sleep for us and this place, this hotel, is only 8 km away from Jamies home house. Who have planned that? :)
Afterwards we are planned to be at Quest air. Originally we want to go to Orlando to see the sea world but who knows what will Quest air look like with out the glider :/

So tomorrow we will experience what astronauts do, the zero G. I know I will be white in my face :) Doing that stuff with such a big machine like Boeing 727 is, its gonna be a noisy ride. I wonder how will we look like when we come back down :) Or even when we will go on this plane :)

We are off now to have a dinner with all N8 producers and people from Womworld. Looking forward to see all the winning contesters.

Here are some pictures from today and yesterday.

It is here

The new toy has arrived and is looking great. I already had a chance to fly it for one hour. Totally different form 13,7 but I think I will enjoy this one. I will have more to tell about it after Florida and after a bit more time in the air with it.

Worlds Cucco, Florida and ZERO G

So many things in this week.

First of all I was waiting for a free place for the worlds as a 6th pilot. Nerve braking days ended when Flavio told me that there will be an open slot for me. I was soooo relieved, I spent last 6 months with focus on new gear and training. Now brand new gun is arriving at Aeros Winter race if it only happens to be at the first dates. If weather will push for spare dates I wont be at the comp as I have one of a kind trip to make :)

The Nokia video contest came to an end with a surprise for me. My video was chosen by the judges among around 120 entries. 8 winners will be on a plane from all around the world, including Slovenia :) to Florida Cape Canaveral. Schedule is for 2 days at Space Kennedy center where we will try the zero G flight and next day look around the space center.

This is like a dream come true for me. When I was a kid I was looking at Space shuttles and rockets via Discovery channel, always only dreaming about seeing this things live. Now I will be able to see that and even have a taste of ZERO G that is experienced in space.
Even better, I can take Nena with me... Good Valentines gift I think :) She deserves that after 6 years of "comp" holidays.

It would be pity to fly such a distance just for two days, so I hope I get the return tickets a bit later so we can annoy Jamie for few days at Florida. Carl don`t worry I wont bring her any chocolate :) only good cheese from Tolmin :D

So I go to the worlds, I go to Florida, I am afraid to ask for more, good weather next week so I can attend first competition this year in the northern hemisphere AEROS WINTER RACE

Let the fun begin :)

This is it

I have it, thanks to my computer that was having really hard times lately. Here is the final edititon of my entry to Nokia N8 contest. You can help me too by sharing the video around the globe as they might look at the views also. There are 8 judges who will decide which are the best video entries to the contest.

Feel free to share it around.

I have to thank to many people who helped me out last 3 weeks.
Janez Zega for his amazing voice
Primoz and Marko for the glider
Regina for acting so good :)
Danijel for rock part music
Ales and friends for help with dolly production
Weather for some amazing shots :)
Ana for a ride :)
Joze for the glide camera

It has been an interesting experience for me as I had to do everything from the scratch. I was not familiar with the actual phone, not with the rigs not with anything so there where numerous visits to hardware store.
No wide lens but the quality is outstanding for the phone.

Enjoy in it and share wherever you can.

There is a like button option on NOKIA web page if you like HERE

The race is on

I got Nokia by mail last Friday so the race is on since then. Unbelievable how good camera the N8 has compared to that that this is still a phone. I am competing with the weather this days. Primoz Regina and me experienced some nice waves above Vipava valley while waiting for the flight that never happened.

We got more lucky on Sunday where we where able to just jump down as inversion layer was too low. Regina showed her abilities of acting in the air so we made some nice close up shots in the air. Here is a frame taken from a video that day. Thank you Regina for this one and for other presents :)

Primoz was here with his 13.5 which looks great on the ground and in the air. I am regaining the confidence with handling that this glider should have. I flew with 13,2 which was much more sensitive than mine 13,7 so 13.5 should be good in the air. I am waiting for next month to get it.

Monday was the day where I was left with out flying again as fog came under the start so safe landing was impossible. Still I got some nice shots over the sunset on ramp with the use of glide cam for the first time.
Now snow is predicted so I desperately hope for a good weather next days so I get a chance to get more aerial shots for Nokia video contest.
Here are some pictures from 13.5
